Star Trek Finally Wins an Oscar!
It's offical, after decades of being snubbed, Star Trek 2009 finally garners an Oscar for Best Makeup. Remains to be seen if there will be wins in any of the other categories ST 2009 has been nominated for, but at least it got an actual award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences instead of just a nomination or two. So congrats to J. J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Barney Burman, Mindy Hall and Joel Harlow! Here's to many more in the future!

Oh come on. Best make up? OK shitty make up surely breaks SoD (Gorn?), but aside from some tattoos and pointy ears, and a couple aliens in the background, where's the make up really?
I don't even know if I should laugh or cry about such an oscar in an age of stretched faces, implanted muscles and breasts and Botox.

You are really underrating the makeup FX for ST 2009. There was quite a bit of work done, far beyond just painting a girl green or sticking some ears and slanted eyebrows on various actors and actresses. Articles on from Trekmovie.com:
http://trekmovie.com/2010/02/27/oscar-n ... ek-makeup/
http://trekmovie.com/2010/03/05/exclusi ... -klingons/
So you can see that there was quite a bit more work than you probably realized, and in this day and age of CGI, this was a rather well-appreciated effort.

How pitiful, an Oscar for Best Makeup! I spit at the Star Trek fans, and defy them. Best Makeup is one of the most pitiful awards around. How sad!

Isn't there some rule against trolling on this forum?

I doubt I am trolling. I am just stating my opinions.

Yes, that would be trolling for a reaction, plainly and obviously. See the rules. Read the rules. Follow the rules.Youngla0450 wrote:How pitiful, an Oscar for Best Makeup! I spit at the Star Trek fans, and defy them. Best Makeup is one of the most pitiful awards around. How sad!

But I thought you were just stating an opinion?
Your BS aside, Sci-Fi is traditionally snubbed at awards, so things like best make-up, technical mumbo jumbo or soundtrack are the best we could hope for.

Re: Star Trek Finally Wins an Oscar!
Things are slowly changing in Hollywood to accept SF and Fantasy movies, as witnessed by the increasing number of nominations and awards being given to them, most importantly the break-out Best Picture Oscar going to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in 2004. But Star Trek has always been the red letter stepchild of the movie industry given that it started originally as a television series, that only became (offically) popular in syndication. The fact that the ST movie franchise produces very good movies, that at least have technical merits worthy of an Oscar is often lost on the Hollywood elites who snub it only because it was a TV series.
Hopefully with this break-out award for ST: 2009, we'll see at least a few more technical awards in the coming years.
