Disney Ends Clone Wars and Starts Rebels

Post by Mike DiCenso » Wed May 22, 2013 7:29 am

As you know, Disney decided to end Star Wars: The Clone Wars CGI series, and in it's wake and using the same animation team, they give us Star Wars: Rebels. The series will interestingly enough be set in the two decades between RoTS and ANH, which is similar to the basic premise of the apparently abandoned live-action series.

Oh shit, no live action series?
Geez.
That's what the future will be about, CGI cartoons?

Well they really couldn't do much more during the Clone War without conflicting with the movies if you think about it. It's kind of logical that they would move on.

I never got much into the clone wars, I'm wondering what will become of Asoka? There's no hint of her existence in ep 3 after all, did she already die or what? I mean it is a kids show after all, it is possible to handle death in a kids show well but usually American programs avoid it completely.

After being screwed over by both the Jedi and the Republic, she leave the Jedi order, and we don't know what happened after that.

Had TCW been allowed a proper send-off this foul taste would not still be in my mouth.

Well that kind of sucks. I'm sure they'll bring her back for the new program though.

Sucks, but does at least mildly help explain why some of the events in Episode 3 happened, and it got rid of Asoka(who has actually become some what liked in the fan base) without killing her. Honestly, you really can't picture Vader killing her, or letting anyone kill her, and her death would have changed things in major ways. Having her walk off into the sunset is the best way to get rid of her until after the events of episode 3.

The events of the story line certainly explain this quote: MACE WlNDU: He has too much control of the Senate and the Courts. He is too dangerous to be kept alive.

Given Ventress was being written in more of a neutral tone towards the end of the series, it is easy to picture Asoka and Ventress becoming a team for a while, and being shown the Empire's rise from the bottom. We've generally been shown the Republic and Empire from the leadership's point of view.

I've never trusted Disney, and I never will. I could never forgive them for the death of my Clone Wars.

What would your favorite author say, 2046? Let us sit upon the ground and tell sad stories of the deaths of tv shows.

I.. gah.. no. I want my ending to clone wars. I'm not getting invested in another show just for them to pull the damn plug, and I can't justify it here. I truly do hope it is successful, but I can't bring myself to watch something when they so callously canceled that which I loved. They'll do it again. It's like Joss Whedon and pretty girls, I know better than to get attached now.
