Yavin 4 battle fighter sub

Post by Picard » Thu Nov 14, 2013 1:33 pm

Instead of having X-wings and Y-wings, Rebels receive a bunch of Dassault Rafales modified with rocket engines, proton torpedo launchers in now-useless air intakes, rapid-firing laser cannon instead of GIAT-30, and fully capable of extended operations in space. Everything else (sensors, missiles, IR signature reduction measures etc.) remains as it is. How do Rebels fare against TIEs?

I am pretty sure they loose fairly badly. Even presuming they could reach the speeds needed to get to the Death Star in time none of them would survive the actual trip due to space dust/radiation/very limited oxygen. Even presuming all of that is handwaved away they wouldn't have the fuel required. Even presuming that was handwaved away they may not even be able to find the trench, much less navigate it... Finally even if we ignore that none of the rebel pilots know how to fly the things.

This is to say nothing about the fact that now the empire has the decidedly superior space craft in the fight.
