But only way I can see that happening is if:
a) either ships are unshielded
or
b) fighters can use power reserves of friendly ship
or maybe are armed with megaton-level nukes.

So if fighters are useless vs capital ships like ISD's or SSD's (which are all the empire fields) than why use fighters at all? The Rebels should have been putting all their resources into acquiring capital ships. Yet they didn't. Fighters are an important part of the war machine and a threat to capital ships as seen in RotJ, tPM, and tRotS.

There is another thread where Mike suggested that proton torpedoes can bypass shields. Thus we can have ships with triple-digit-megaton shielding harmed by one-digit-kiloton proton torpedoes.

We see many times in Star Wars that has different types of shields.
