Final Traviss Novel Cancelled
I don't follow SW much anymore but I saw this on DITL and thought you folks might be interested:
Her blog.
Anyways, the short version is that the Mando's have been retconned into pacifists and that it wasn't compatible with the novel she had. With no time to redo the book, it's been canned.
So, looks like the whole Traviss saga comes to an end with the novels she has out now.

Well, if you needed any further proof of how high in the canon hierarchy the TCW CGI cartoon ranks, this is it. If it wasn't canon, Traviss could just ignore it as she pleased. But here she takes what happens in it nearly as much as she does what happens in the movies.

Exsqueeze me but... pacifists? The Mandalorians? or is it some drastically different group we're talking about here?

Nope, it's the Mandolorians. Guess they make an appearance in the cartoon and have been retconned into a group of pacifists whose homeworld had been nuked.Mr. Oragahn wrote:Exsqueeze me but... pacifists? The Mandalorians? or is it some drastically different group we're talking about here?
Can't say I'm surprised really, the EU has always been the red-headed step child of SW and the powers that be have never been shy to step on it.

The only way I could see off handedly in reconciling this with the EU is that if the episode establishes Mando had undergone some form of civil war, ala what happened with Vulcan in Star Trek during the Time of Awakening where some Vulcans chose a path of logic and peace, while those that did not accept Sarek's teachings let loose nukes and then fled the planet to go become the Romulans. The Mandolorians that Jango Fett are from are still holding the planet's warrior traditions, while the ones who stayed behind are clinging to pacifism.

Well, I see this an emphasis of what keeps getting alluded to:
George Lucas does not pay much attention to the EU, nor does he feel in any way obliged to respect what it comes up with. C-level continuity is bent to fit with the G-level canon of Lucas's Star Wars, and if it can't be creatively justified, it goes off to the retcon bin.
Mike, from reading this thread, I think you might be accurately forecasting what the EU will be saying when TCW moves on and stops saying things about the Mandalorians.

Well yeah, it's been obvious for a good while that SW is just Lucas's personal cash cow and he doesn't care about the fans anymore then the average person cares about the roach he just stepped on.

That's...actually somewhat the opposite point I was trying to make, which is that at this point caring is almost pointless. The Dude wrote:Well yeah, it's been obvious for a good while that SW is just Lucas's personal cash cow and he doesn't care about the fans anymore then the average person cares about the roach he just stepped on.

I've just been really lazy; the computer I was using to work on that stuff needed to be cleaned out badly and, I was just lazy. But I've defragmented it and everything so I don't even have that excuse anymore, but it was always meant to be a side-hobby with sporadic updates, but I'll make a point to add something. I cannot say sooner or later though.Mike DiCenso wrote:

Frankly, I'm flabbergasted that the material is as well-received as it is.
