Exactly what it says on the tin, a clone wars era Trade Federation battleship versus a TOS era Constitution class starship. The fight takes place in a largely empty and unintersting star system, a few gas giants some rockier terrestial ones nothing fancy or unusual, with their stardrives disabled. All other systems and technology are fully functional. Who wins?

Extra scenario:a Munificent frigate vs a connie under the same conditions.

Third and final scenario: One Lucrehulk supported by two Munificent frigates pitted against one Constituion and a pair of TOS movie variant Mirandas.

so this thread is hopefully less brutal than mine?

i think it's closer certainly the connie's phasers are going to be doing severe damage but she's a big girl and IIRC has a decent set of guns

The second scenario goes to the Feddies though they can ignore the munies for a bit and just gang bang the big one then turn their attention onto the escorts

Not only guns the TF battleship carries a compliment of droid fighters, if nothing else they can be set to simply ram the Constitution or try and tie up phasers. Doubt they could keep it up for long but even for a few moments could prove crucial in a fight.

Well I wouldn't underestimate the frigates. They may be smaller but they they've been shown to hold their against Venators in the Clone Wars. I think given a chance they could inflict some real damage.

I'm not too sure what fighters ramming a connie can do..but the lucre should be able to ram with impunity if it can catch the connie..

holding their own against venators? I remember it being more then one..and it usually involving the loss of them all to take one down. I recall beam weapon from the hangor bay of a venator in the movie cutting the head clean off a munie...in the clone wars a squadron of Y wings took one apart

Well I suggested ramming as a last ditch resort so that worst case scenario they could at least be of some use. I do think they would be of more use actually fighting the Connie instead of ramming here however.

Taking a look here at 3:02-3:03 mark we see a vulture droid firing at a young Anakin Skywalker, regretably he misses, and I make about three or four laser bolts in the time elapsed. Now Wookiepedia cites from the Episode I cross sections that the Tradeship has fifteen hundred of the suckers. Assuming each bolt is only worth a megajoule, and that the entire fleet of fighters get within range which is admittedly a big if, in the first "moment" they could deliver up to four point five gigajoules of volitale energy. In the first minute they could deliever up to 270 gigajoules.

Running on the other side of the spectrum, say fifty megajoules per bolt, they could deliver up to 225 gigajoules in the first "moment". Up to thirteen and half terajoules in the first minute. After four or five minutes they'd have dropped the better part of Little Boy. It all adds up.

I don’t remember it being quite that bad in ROTS, nothing to make it seem like they were utterly out classed by the Republic cruisers. here within the first five minutes it makes clear that six frigates out gun three Venators. It also proves that without shields frigates might as well have been made from tinfoil but that’s life.

I thought that was a SPHA-T (sp) beam? The thing that cut through those battlespheres in AOTC so easily. As well we don’t know the full condition of the Munie, the novelization implies the battle had been waging for hours at this point

A squadron of Y-bombers also took out the Malevolence’s ion cannon and had intended to destroy her. Taking out big ships are the bombers job, think of it like a quasi-WWII naval war in space, and if your lucky Lucas sticks to showing them taking out warships instead of the “air superiority fighters” ones doing it.

All in all I don’t think the Frigates do that badly, they are basically upgunned medium sized vessels squaring off against the premier Republic battleship, well in addition to the Victory class but that didn’t seem to pan out too well, and I think they’ve proven that a Ventator can not simply walk all over them.
