DEFEAT THE HULK
Okay, making a long story short here... I have a friend who I love to debate with on occasion. There is a problem however... I'm a DC fan, and he is a marvel fan.
Well the end of my last debate with him came down to him basically saying the hulk was unbeatable by pretty much anything (including wishes from D&D).
I'm not buying that this guy is that tough. Marvel prides itself on not having a superman and frankly with what I know of hulk he is pretty supermanish already, if not more so (hell superman can at least die). Still, the guy has to die someway, somehow.
So, do your worse and let "SMASH HULK" begin!

One word; Gridfire.
Two words: Time Lords.
Choose one of them. The gridfire (best aimed by the Culture) would destroy the Hulk down to the last atom and turn him into nothing but loose energy. The Time Lords would merely circumvent the events that led to the Hulk's creation, and thereby circumvent the Hulk's entire existence. Nothing can survive retroactive annihilation.

Some tips on defeating the hulk:
1. Wait a while. He's just another mortal being.
2. Transporter failure sounds like a plan.
3. He's nothing a bit of NDF won't fix. (If a phaser 'vanishes' you there's not much life left)
4. Or a bit more old fashioned nuclear device.
5. Failing all those a hulk-sized piece of antimatter will definitely work. And blow up the city he's in as well.
(note that I don't know everything about the hulk, but it seems that these five should do the trick nicely)

Unfortunately, these two have been used before if I remember correctly. The former doesn't work whatsoever as he's effectively immortal, and the latter just has the effect of making him even stronger than he already is...Roondar wrote:1. Wait a while. He's just another mortal being.

Narsil, the Radiation from the Bomb does, but a point blank nuclear blast in the Kiloton range would effectively kill him, that's how the Hulk got rid of the Maestro, an alternate future self turned super powerful because of nuclear Radiation.
I know that in the latest stories (haven't read them though, lost my love for comics when I came to realize the stories never evolved) he's become extremelly powerful, probably the equivalent of ol' Supes.
But he can be beaten, just like Superman can.
And Marvel does have a Superman now, he's called "Sentry".
Sperman-rip-off... :)

The hulk has had most of his flesh forced off and he regenerated it all back in no time flat. In his less powerful and gray form, he got punched into orbit by cosmic spider-man (and I assume re-entered earth by falling; I forget). He supported on his shoulders/back a mountain that was either 3 million or 3 billion pounds, I forget which. So, you need some kind of god level powers. Either time manipulation over discrete areas, space warping over discrete areas, molecular disassociation and dispersion, use psychic/magick powers to shut down both the Banner and Hulk parts of his mind, making him a brainless corpse, get that device that transfers superpower (which gave the hulk's powers to spider-man) and then, kill banner, call in a being that can control fate, the personification of Death (she hasn't barred the hulk from her dimension, as far as I know), the infinity gauntlet, a cosmic cube, a black hole, get him to attempt to play grand theft auto or even use a normal phone (his enormous fingers would make it impossible and he gets so mad he fades away into nothingness), The Nothing, that thing that made him split into banner and the hulk and have the hulk kill banner, which would kill the hulk, have him merge with onslaught and kill onslaught...

The problem with most of these solutions is that the Watcher would intervene, and has the power to do so. He considers Hulk to be integral to the destiny of Earth and has saved him before.
Not to mention the fact that you better make sure it works the first time, because it certainly won't the second time. With all the things Hulk has been through over the years, I highly doubt any solution would work, though, to be honest.
The transporter failure thing would do the trick, I admit.
.I disagree with the idea that a kiloton level blast would kill him. More than once Hulk has survived nuclear weapons.
Any attack on Banner would simply make him stronger, since we see in 'The End: The Hulk' that he's quite capable of surviving without him and Banner's subconscious mind holds back the level of power Hulk is able to access, and also tempers his anger.
I sincerely believe, though, that even in the case of the transporter thing, the Watcher would at least attempt to intervene on Hulk's behalf.

.... Ok, no one told me he had 'god' (for all intents and purposes) watch over him.
Still, defeating has little to do with killing. Basically anything that immobilizes him or keeps him busy/away is enough to 'defeat' him.
Perhaps luring him into a FTL ship set on a course out of the universe would suffice? (Do make sure there are no methods of altering the course ;))
Though I still believe that antimatter should do the trick, as well as any attack that removes his matter.

In a much more recent story he's survived ground zero of an explosion large enough to cause earthquakes and general tectonic problems on a planet-wide scale. I dunno if a specific yeild can be found from that, but it's probably way more.Praeothmin wrote:Narsil, the Radiation from the Bomb does, but a point blank nuclear blast in the Kiloton range would effectively kill him, that's how the Hulk got rid of the Maestro, an alternate future self turned super powerful because of nuclear Radiation.
A big problem with any sort of attempt to quantify the Hulk is that is strength varies wildly; it's an integral part of his character. "Madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets" and all that. In WWH he was pissed off enough to fight the Sentry to a standstill, and Sentry has fought of Galactus. Compare that to, say, any other Hulk fight and you see why this is all a bit silly.
Hahah, oh wow. Have you even read either of the Sentry series? Apart from some (not all!) of his powers (Superspeed, strength, durability, flight etc) he's nothing like Superman. And hell, if you're going by those critera then Wonder-Woman is a Superman rip-off.Praeothmin wrote:And Marvel does have a Superman now, he's called "Sentry".

I must admit I haven't read a lot of superhero comics in a while, since I've been feeling for a while that nothing really new ever happens anymore, so I didn't see that one.K.Y.P. wrote:In a much more recent story he's survived ground zero of an explosion large enough to cause earthquakes and general tectonic problems on a planet-wide scale. I was basing myself on the "Maestro", the future Hulk incarnation in one special series, "Future Imperfect" I believe (not sure), where a detonation at ground zero did kill a Hulk that had killed Thor, and most other superheroes by himself.
The problem with that comparison is that, in comics, the powers of the characters often depend on the needs of the story. In WWH he was pissed off enough to fight the Sentry to a standstill, and Sentry has fought of Galactus.
Heck, Venom was almost able to go toe-to-toe with Juggernaut once, and we all know how powerful Juggernaut normally is (meaning, way above Venom's league)...
We also don't know if Galactus was at full power at the time Sentry fought him, so it's difficult to gauge.
Although, once more, aside from looking at the Hulk-Sentry fight, I haven't followed much Marvel lately, so you may be right...
Nope...Have you even read either of the Sentry series?
Let's see:Apart from some (not all!) of his powers (Superspeed, strength, durability, flight etc) he's nothing like Superman.
Flight, Superspeed, Superstrength, Super-durability, Energy projection, Absorbs solar radiation for strength, Superhuman Senses (Vision, Hearing, etc...) ...
You're right, he's nothing like Superman... :)
Look, I think you failed to notice my smile when I called him a Superman rip-off.
I know there are a lot of Superheroes inspired by Superman, and frankly, Supes has so many powers that any one with just a few of them will look like a rip-off...
But, y'know, if it quaks like a duck, and it walks like a duck... ;)

The tractor beam thing would work. Until something happened and it turned off, since Hulk is immortal. For all intents and purposes though, it would hold him.
I think that a lot of the inconsistency in what Hulk can endure comes directly from that 'Hulk gets madder, Hulk gets stronger' thing. If you hit him with an atomic bomb, for instance, when he was just transforming into the Hulk and hadn't had a chance to get angry, it might kill him. On the other hand, in the Ultimates, that version of the Hulk was hit with MULTIPLE nukes at the exact moment of transformation and was completely unscathed, and Ultimate Hulk is supposed to be weaker than 616 Hulk. So who knows. As has already been said, I'm sure it has a lot to do with what the story calls for.
