In this episode in which Sheppard Mckay and Teyla board what happens to be a Daedalus from an alternate universe that has been jumping from universe to universe using a experimental drive that an alternate version of Mckay himself developed. On one scene they end up in an alternate universe where the star or more precisely the sun that the planet that Atlantis had grown into a full blow red giant and on top of that throws a solar flare at the ship, the ship's shields were already partially depleted as a result of an earlier fight with some yet unidentified aliens.
But given this facts what can anyone make of this picture:

Can such a thing be used to measure shield's strength?

There's some thread where we talked about this. It's a bad case of crap VFX that makes zero sense.
Or Daedalus Variations: a 304 sitting far far far away from a red giant loses shield integrity while backed up by a subspace power core that rivals a ZPM or some such.
