Good to know that Google now has it's own martial arts discipline. I've been waiting for that to happen. I can finally get that Black-belt that I wanted as a child...

Re: Traviss Quits The SW EU
Do people seriously argue that it hasn't been rubbish for decades? The last truly decent book I can remember was the Zahn trilogy.Mr. Oragahn wrote:Talifans are delusional, as the EU has sunk since eons.
An example.
It's probably easier to just churn out what the fanboy's want. Look at the KOTOR MMO, pretty much the same stuff we've been getting for years and the comments on the prequel comic make it out to be the best thing EVAR!Perhaps they should make fewer but better products. Well, OK, that has to be hard, when Lucas himself seems to do nothing more these days that shoot entire lengths of tasteless battle sequences of pwee pwee boom vwomm vwomm ksshh ksshh screeee vwomm...
Someone should really steal Star Wars and start writing down some new stuff with new characters people give a **** about, not some turd about Sith v8.45 four generations down the Skywalker lineage *yawn*.
People are celebrating cause she pooped all over the franchise and it might be a sign that things will improve. The EU has that terrible habit of giving a book to anything that's been seen in the background of a movie and now the CGI show.
Now, Traviss is gone, but isn't it odd, really, that some people celebrate her departure while she was one of the few willing to spend that much time on a franchise which, as Robert put, holds the role of the constantly abused spouse here?
lol, bet it never comes out. SW is pretty much just a cash cow for Lucas at this point.Really, perhaps the EU should really take a break, and someone speed up that live action show with that new band of rogue characters we've heard about.

Come to think of it...that's a Vong battledroid? Don't the Vong hate technology?

No, it was called a Yuuzahn Vong Hunter droid. It was designed to fight and kill the Vong. It even had a battlecry in the Vong's own language that was a horrible insult to them. I believe it said, "We are machines, we are greater than the Yuuzahn Vong."

Good lord, now they're ripping off the talking bombs from Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers.

It is in principle. A weapon that talks to the enemy as part of a psychological warefare effort and then it kills them.

Re: Traviss Quits The SW EU
I guess I didn't see it that way since SW already had battle droids. This is basically a slight modification of what they already have, only this time it taunts the enemy.
I suppose there are some similarities, but I would hardly call this stealing, since SW already had something similar in place.

Re: Traviss Quits The SW EU
I am curious about two things:
One. I want to know what changes in the canon exactly are coming through the tube. Is it just yet another rewrite of the Mandalorians (who, along with Boba Fett, have had several different backgrounds by now), or something that actually has bearing on the VS debate - i.e., more reversals on the size crap?
Two. Karen Traviss said that Star Wars wasn't making most of her income. She's published nine SW novels and five SW shorts (plus 2 other SW Insider features); eight non-SW novels with six other non-SW shorts and one essay in a collection.
"In the pipeline," as I believe she puts it, are two SW novels and one GoW novel. In other words, half of everything she's published is in the SW franchise, and I would be surprised to find that her original novels have the same sort of distribution. Is Lucas Licensing handing out fees that shoddy, or did she get a really big advance from this "mystery" project she says she's sitting on?
