Borg metallic growth (sorry, couldn't find better words)

Post by Mr. Oragahn » Thu Sep 03, 2009 9:21 pm

In some recent debate about the Borg, someone told me that an isolated group of them managed to grow Borg stuff in a room of the USS Voyager in little to no time.
I said that this reminded me of the regrowing hull phenomenon as observed in the first contact with Borg, courtesy of Q.

In the case of the Voyager, does anyone know where this matter came from, how much of it was grown and how much energy could have been required?

I can think of several possibilities, ranging from the two "Scorpion" episodes to "Dark Frontier" and "Drone". Can your press this person for a specific episode?

Oh yeah, in "Dark Frontier, Neelix states that Seven's alcove uses up thirty megawatts of power. Who knows why, but presumably it might have somthing to do with recharging the implants, or some form of replicator technology.

I think it's been part of some recent thread at SBC, with Borg and Replicators. I'll try to find the reference.

This also happens in ST:FC, no?

Ah, yes.

It's implied for ST:FC and Voyager then, because we don't see it happen on screen - yet it happens pretty quickly regardless.

As to the energy question, that depends on what is actually happening. If they're converting matter to energy to matter it's a pretty big sum, if they don't.. Well, I've got no idea if it's exotic ;)

You can assume that it simply is not just a matter of replicator technology, but also one of nanotechnology as the Borg nanoprobes have demonstrated a rather impressive ability to grow implants on infected victims within mere minutes. The same could be true of the cube ships themselves, if you assume that part of their regeneration capability is nanoprobes flowing around the structure and systems ready to repair or replace as needed.
