The Federation can be killed by the Empire

Post by Youngla0450 » Tue Jul 06, 2010 1:58 am

The United Federation of Planets is a weak government. The Federation has several flaws, that can lead to it's destruction by the Empire. Here is some weaknesses of the Federation:

*The Federation's warp drive is pitifully slow. While it would take 72 years for a Federation ship to cross the galaxy (as stated in Star Trek: Voyager), it would take a Imperial or Star Wars vessel only one day-one week to cross the galaxy. The Borg, the most advanced species in the Star Trek universe, can cross the galaxy in at least five months, but their still slower then the Empire's ships.

*The Federation has computers who control 90% of the operations on all Federation vessels, including the Enterprise, as saw in the Next Generation episode "Contagion".

*The Federation's communications network is slow. It would take six years for a Federation communications message to cross it's galaxy. A Imperial ship would outrun the Federation message in less then a day or at the most, a week!

*Federation transporters are extremely inefficient. Transporters effectively terminate the life cycle of Federation beings, reorganizing them at the molecular level, and transporting those molecules to another area up to 40,000 km away. It then creates a exact duplicate of the subject who was broken down by using the person's molecules.

*Federation officials rely on biofilters to identify and removing any dangerous pathogens or toxins in their body. However, 9 times out of 10 the biofilter fails to identify or cure a pathogen and thus viruses infect the ship!

.

Warp drive, like hyperdrive, is limited in how fast it can go based on the quality of navigational data about the region of space the ship is attempting to traverse. In "The Year of Hell, Part 2", the astrometric lab modifcations provided a significant update to Voyager's navigational data, allowing 5 years to be shaved off the trip back home. In "Hope and Fear", in the real message from Starfleet, the hope was that navigational data sent to Voyager would allow "a few years" to be shaved off the trip, and this was just months after TYoH navigational data shaved 5 years off. Several years later, in "Q2", Q gives a PADD with navigational data improvements to Janeway as a reward for babysitting his son and teaching him some important lessons. This data shaved "a few years" more off of Voyager's trip back home. So somewhere between 7 and 15 years were shaved off this way depending on various factors.

As also previously pointed out, in well-charted Federation and other regions of the Alpha and Beta Quadrent, Federation and other powers' starships have been shown travelling at hundreds of thousands of c. For example, in TOS episodes like "Obsession" and "That which Survives", trips across distances of about 1,000 light years take less than a day. In TNG we have "The Chase, where the E-D traverses across a 40,000 light year long route througout parts of the Alpha and Beta Quadrents in a matter of days, a couple of weeks at most.

In fact, based on what we know, the Federation should have a distinct advantage in it's own territory in terms of FTL speed, as the Empire will have spend a great deal of time exploring and poking it's way around the Milky Way trying to obtain navigational data.

As noted in the thread on computer flaws, the Empire has quite a similar number of flaws, particularly for the Death Star. In addtion, in the Heir to the Empire trilogy of books, Mara Jade uses built-in back doors in Thrawns personal flagship, the Chimaera to shutdown the computer systems all throughout the massive Imperial class star destroyer.

Source please? Most subspace communications, even across the Federation seem to be real-time, or require only a few hours delay at most.

That fallacy is debunked in this thread here. The TNG episode "Realm of Fear", shows what it is like to transport from someone's perspective. Barclay not only is conscious throughout the entire process, but is even able to interact (deflect it away by raising his arm) a weird form of quasi-energy microbial life that lives there, and grab onto people trapped in the transport realm and pull them with him back to safety. Thus transporters do more than merely tear people apart and put them back together.

Sources? You've been asked this before, but you have only been able to show only one or two examples out of potentially thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of routine transports.

Feels like a blunt summary of some obscure page on Wong's website.

The Federation's weaknesses are many, Mike Dicenso. I did not ask you to come ruining my thread by saying "I love Star Trek, and I think the Empire is horrible". You little bastard keep on thinking pro-Trek.

If what you are writing cannot stand up to intense scrutiny, particularly since some of it is outright wrong, then it is not even worth posting it in the first place.

That's probably because it is a cut-and-paste summary of Wong's pages.

Do you even like Star Wars? Or are you a little bastard spitting out Federation lies about Star Wars?

Now you are not only stepping over the line here as a troll, but you have demonstrated that you cannot support your claims. Very well, I accept your concessions.

Look peoples, I am sorry if I am acting like a troll. I apologize for anything wrong I might have said or done. But Mr. Mike, you keep on acting like a little bastard by standing up for Star Trek and you keep on refuting my claims. I am giving you accurate information. I am tired of your shitting around.

What is wrong with someone refuting your claims with counter-evidence? That is what debate and proper scientific methodology is all about, is it not?

Oh you are right. Star Wars has weaknesses of it's own, and you have the right to present counter-evidence to refute my claims. But you must stop acting like a childish bastard who does not even consider Star Trek has it's own weaknesses.

I am not the one acting like a child, Youngla, you are. You made specific claims about Federation weakness, and I pointed out the flaws in each of those claims. You then throw temper-tantrums instead of trying to find additional examples, or acknowledging you were wrong.

I concede that the Empire has weaknesses as well.
