Star Wars Live Action Series Merely Delayed

Post by Mike DiCenso » Mon Jun 13, 2011 9:28 pm

The planned for live-action TV series is not dead according to sources, merely being delayed a few years because of technical issues.

Among the reasons given is that the digital animation technology is not up to what they want to do.

To me that's kinda BS since TV sci-fi series, like the Star Trek franchise series, Babylon 5, the Stargate franchise, and the RDM Battlestar Galactica, have all been able to shoot largely what they'd wanted to with even the relatively primitive visual FX of the time. This just makes me think that the stories themselves may not be up to par enough to carry the series itself, even though it has an interesting premise.

Hey? He's just repeating himself. Not really "news". And I don't buy it. Or what? he wants to be able to do some Avatar for TV?
He's literally too obsessed over VFX. What the hell. Did he ever watch Farscape? What about Stargate and BSG? Hell, he did the Super Edition with plenty of those CGI animals in 97, and put much more into the movies. Even high profile video game engines like Crytek 3 are getting close to real time rendering of high definition volumes, with Tron Legacy like levels of textures and lighting.
Besides, good old solid models and matte paintings are still perfect to use.
Not to say that fans would have excused him if the special effects weren't perfect.
This is too silly.
What's he gonna do? If he can't have some super aliens, can't he just settle on some puppets?
The only reason he would be holding back would be his will to use actors' faces and plaster them over CGI craniums, and have them look real enough, like in Avatar or even the last Terminator.
So we'll see that in 2015. Geez.

I have to admit, that I'm a little bit confused by all of this. Are they really wanting to do a live-action series, or just a more advanced version of the existing CGI one? Given the premise, I really actually want to see this one go into production since will completely shotgun the hell out of the Expanded Universe more than any thing else ever could.

Is that why you watch TCW? For this vs debate?

I am against a live action series for Star Wars because it will probably suck.

Movies shotgunned hell out of EU long time ago (before EU even existed) so don't count on Warsies accepting it even if live-action series appears.

I'll cry when that happens. The EU is SO much better than Lucas' crap.

I really hope Star Wars just dies in the near future so Lucas can't ruin it any more ...

Not all of the EU...
Some books were crappy, like some X-Wings books, some NJO books, and I personally hated the whole Yuuzan Vong storyline...

I myself found "Rise of Dark Force" to be lacking in some things when compared to TOT. And Yuuzhan Vong storyline, I read about it on Wookieepedia; it is just crappy, probably meant for 9-year-olds or your average Warsie wankers.

It was indeed quite awful.

Still better than the prequel stuff and cartoon though. XD

There are some rare EU books that are actually worse than Lucas at his worst. But they won't be mentioned, or else through speaking their name we might cause Cthulhu to awaken.

I think that the Yuuzhan Vong timeline was interesting in that it provided an enemy other than the sith, but one that was disturbingly fanatical and not affected by the Force.
