One of the most subjective parts of analyzing Star Trek and Star Wars is looking at the political habits of the various factions. What philosophies drive the government? How do the people actually behave?

In these sections, there are two different fields we can look at. First, the moral and ethical status of the various societies. Was the Old Republic corrupt? Does the Cardassian Empire support civil rights? Is the Empire oppressive? Is the Federation a good place to live in?

Second - and most directly pertinent to VS debaters - if these two distinct galaxies intersected, how would the various political bodies interact? Would the Borg try to assimilate the Jedi Order? Would the Empire rush out trying to conquer the Federation? Would the Ferengi sell the Rebel Alliance arms?

These questions are endless - and very difficult to answer. We shall not claim certainty in these sections on politics; we'll try to analyze what happened as best as we can, and in the Comparison section, we'll set forth our best guesses as to what might happen.
