The relevant part is at 5:28 to about 14:36. It is the part about earthquake bombs.

Turbolasers blasters and lasers in Star Wars act like shells most of the time. Very few weapons in Star Wars act like beams.

Yes but they don't exactly have the power of bombs either so I think they're a mix of both: thermal and blast, with a lot on the thermal side.

While Turbolaser/Laser/Blaster bolts glow, I fail to recall any notable release of energy until the bolt explodes. I'm sure there is a loss while tunneling, but that is what causes the bolt to explode.Mr. Oragahn wrote: Yes but they don't exactly have the power of bombs either so I think they're a mix of both: thermal and blast, with a lot on the thermal side.

Their explosions aren't exactly very bomb-like either. But chalk it up to Hollywood, that constantly insisted on adding gasoline to make things prettier while actually less damaging, blast-wise.Lucky wrote:While Turbolaser/Laser/Blaster bolts glow, I fail to recall any notable release of energy until the bolt explodes. There's a limit to how far we can take visuals in that case, and explosions are always the poor child in such debates.
For the sake of simplicity, you should work on the basis of theoretical models.

I see no reason to throw out visuals. It might make sense to not take them 100% literally, but "Laser flak" is in the novelizations, scripts, all 7 movies, and in all 5 seasons of the TV show. It isn't some accident meant to be pretty or dramatic, but a function of the weapon technology used in Star Wars.Mr. Oragahn wrote: Their explosions aren't exactly very bomb-like either. "Laser Bolts" in Star wars tend to act like shells fired from battleships or shotguns(Frag-12 type shells).
And yet every shot from an AAT explodes.http://starwars.com/explore/encyclopedia/technology/aattank/ wrote: primary turret laser cannon, twin lateral range-finding lasers, twin lateral antipersonnel lasers, 6 energy shell projectile launchers

Did I say there were no flaks, no explosions?Lucky wrote:Mr. Oragahn wrote:Yes but they don't exactly have the power of bombs either so I think they're a mix of both: thermal and blast, with a lot on the thermal side.Lucky wrote:While Turbolaser/Laser/Blaster bolts glow, I fail to recall any notable release of energy until the bolt explodes. No. Please read what I said first.
I'm saying explosions in SW; for some weapons, tend to be far from efficient detonating devices.

Turbolasers seem rather explosive to me. Look at what they did when they hit the Falcon in The Empire Strikes Back. The explosion caused the Falcon to nearly flip over. Exploding is the primary method blaster/laser/turbolaser bolts transfer energy.Mr. Oragahn wrote: Did I say there were no flaks, no explosions?

Yes, a heavy weapon, probably supercharged to some degree (cue, the name of said weapon), used against a small cargo.Lucky wrote:Turbolasers seem rather explosive to me. Must shield surrounded entire planet well only design stop energy weapons KE weapons. Basic making ISD weapons unless and shield likely power enough stop anything tie bomber drop.
