Hmm, from what I recall, muzzle-flashes are supposed to be there on railguns because of the eroding rail. But not the coilgun. I don't think it's impossible though, you could perhaps say it's just the friction between the bullet and barrel that gives of a faint flash. But I'm not sure it'll be as prominent.
As for bang. Stricktly speaking, no. The bang comes from the propellant going boom. But I suppose there should be a very faint sonic boom, nothing similar to what a gun normally gives off though.
I'm hunting for a pic, though my time is limited today so don't expect much.
I can't find my Matrix disc, otherwise I would've ripped an image by now.

I think the numbers will still end looking bigger than what T-800s have been seen ditching anyway.
Those bullets were still big, there are tracers as far as I recall, and the squids could take several shots at short range before going down.
Besides, do all squids transport one of those antigravity bombs? You know, the ones they throw after spinning like crazy greek athletes?

As far as the movies and the series goes, I recall them taking a damn lot of small arms fire, but nothing more then assault rifle caliber (from what I recall anyway). But that's kinda the thing, they don't seem the least bit bothered by that kind of firepower either.
And then there was that TX weapon that literally threw an arniebot some 5-10 meters back in T3. Managed to knock him out temporarily but nothing more then that.

I don't think so, they seemed more like special weaponry for specific missions (in this case taking out the hovercraft thingies from out of range).

Here's what I managed to dig up:
Some guys work.
From the movie?
Concept Art.
The actual set prop. Look at the muzzle, you can see the barrel inset in what looks like a flash suppressor. Naturally their not using flashless powder so I guess it's there for looks.
Zooming in on the barrel itself I get a conservative 5x5 pixels. If anyone can convert that to inches or mm's we'll get a calibre.

I don't think we'll ever be able to scale an accurate caliber, if we're off by so much as a pixel, we'd be talking a difference in several cm. The accuracy we'd need would simply be too much.
I think the best (and probably only) way to get something is by simply looking at the rounds and then guessing the general area the caliber is going to fall in. It's not as if the caliber is going to matter much in the general scope of this vs anyway.
In any case, here are a few caps from the movie:
Here's another one from the Animatrix:
Compared with
these, I'd definetly say it's around the 20mm mark, at least.

From the first two I'd say 20-25mm, the third isn't a very good shot and it looks like a .50 cal round.
Those three have a wide range of different types of rounds. Anywhere from Ball all the way upto HE or SLAP.
