And to be fair, Commander gave us a great deal of leeway with that ICS thread, until certain idiots (Point, Leo, and what's his face) wore him down until he closed it down.
But when you look at the recent ban history at SB.com, for having partook in those threads, I can tell you that p45 wouldn't have lasted more than two pages if he had been "judged" with the same severity used against those who criticized SW.
I mean, even recently, Thanatos seemed just too happy finding an excuse to ban me, so hasty in his appreciation of the situation that he actually got it entirely wrong. And of course, figured that G.schatten's behaviour was correct despite doing nothing more than trying to pull my into a shitty ICS dispute. And I don't think I'm imagining things when considering the possibility that Thanatos landed in that thread because he would have received a report from GS. It could actually explain Thanatos' erroneous position, possibly working from that report he may have had. I remember that another mod visited that thread as well, his sky coloured and bolded nickname being composed of two names, not even a regular in the versus forum (I don't remember seeing him poking his head around the versus forum in any vs. thread I've been reading in the recent months, and I do look the user list quite often).
So this rather very smallish and random thread really seemed to pull some attention all of sudden.

Really, that ICS shit has done more harm than anything, and now, it seems that Halo got its retarded ICS all as much.
Fortunately, there doesn't seem to be a strong Haloite moderating anything at SB.com. Mind you, if SB.com's versus mods are largely influenced by SDN's dogmatic visions, considering Wong's sticked rebuttal of Master Chief wank, it's not surprising. You cannot uphold outrageously extravagant sources as Holy when the board features such as a thread as a welcome sign.
Note: Wong's head gonna explode if he ever watches the anime. :D

Yes, it would seem that he did come in gun's blazing, but as you said, it's possible he was 'misinformed'.

Oh, it's EU is already full of retarded shit to make these people into god-like warriors who can pretty much take a shit load of punishment that the cutscenes never gave us, but what does that matter?

Fortunately indeed. Of course, I don't think Wong can appreciate the irony of his actions, but whatever. I'll simply point to the lack of TT level fireballs from two ships engaging in atmosphere and the fact that a meteorite punched through a capital ship with ease.

There's an anime?!

Just a slight correction on my error.
It was CommanderRazor, not Thanatos. In the end, it's still a mod with a capped avatar.
Now, funniest of all, I still got a ban, but no one told me why. So it just feel from the sky.
:D

Yep, made by the studio behind Ghost in the Shell series, PIG, I think. But they've not been alone working on this larger project.
It's going to be part of an ensemble of seven very short movies, if I get it, like Animatrix.
That's Halo Legends.

Microsoft clearly knows how to milk a franchise that has never been so stellar to boot and pretty much owes it all to being the only FPS on the Xbox, supported by mind boggling loads of cash.

Just thought I would but in for a second to say that I'm loving Tyralak's board, and that more of you guys should pop in over there.

Also, in case anyone cares, I'm prolly done over here for a while.

Ugh, I hope they improve the quality of animation first, that doesn't look much better then Heavy Metal.

It's looking well, but honestly, unless his board provides something very unique and different from SB.com or SFJ.net, I'm not moving much. I'll read threads from time to time though.

That said, considering that amounts of vs boards there's been dealing with STvSW, perhaps we should try to arrange a new wikipedia page? I mean, how long this nerdy activity is going to be ignored if there's been no less than 6 boards which made ST and SW their primary big enemies, until things changed and more universes got added?

Thus far, there's a mention about Spacebattles there (and SB doesn't even show up as a link).

I'm sure you said something that hurt Leo's feelings somewhere and he went crying to a mod.

Eh, it doesn't look anything special, but maybe we can take some of those wanky numbers down, though it depends on the canon policy that Bungee has. Although, we're probably going to get the stupid anime-style blooms that are absurdly large.>=p

Ugh, the Animatrix sucked donkey balls.

Production I.G. are the guys who made Ghost in the Shell. Production I.G.. I don't know what the hell PIG is other than small pink mammals that don't fly :P

And yes I finally joined Tyralak's board. I hope Tyralak's happy :p

And yeah I agree that Halo franchise is way overrated. Gears of War has much better source material to work with they should milk the hell outta that. Far, far superior game too. It's the only 360 (exclusive) game I have that I consider to be truly, Godly memorable. Well, that an Ace Combat 6 but only because I'm a massive AC fanboy.

Mike DiCenso wrote:I suppose the Chans might be a threat, if they misunderstand what the ASVS forum is all about. But I think the more immediate concern is SDN, though they may just be content to sit back and spout venom from behind the safety of their little box fort like they've been doing for SFJN for years now. When they know they don't have a decisive advantage in numbers or in having a pro-Wars, pro-ICS mod who will ban the opposition or shut down threads at the drop of a hat, they won't show up. It's too much work for them to have to justify their religion. That's what happened at the Strek-vs-Swars forum years ago. Without either ICS or a mod to cheat with, they're kind of helpless.
-Mike
This is true. However, I don't expect any coordinated invasions from them. Maybe a few freelancers. I do expect a significant amount of venom. In the thread I linked, Wong was NOT happy about my board. In fact, he resorted to cheap shots like trying to imply the name of my site indicated that we intended it to be a Trekkie wankfest. I dispelled him of this notion right away. The reason I named the site Club ASVS is because ASVS.com and ASVS.org were taken. ASVS.net was $2000. ClubASVS.com and .net were $10 a piece. It fit my budget. Yes, the name sounds kind of dippy, but it was the best I could think of at the time. If I can get my hands on a proper ASVS domain like .com or persuade Aaron Kerkhof to let go of .org, I'll drop the "Club".
Then he and his minions tried to accuse me of supporting 4Chan's activities, even though I made it QUITE PLAIN that I disapproved. After I called him on that, he moved on and never mentioned it again.

Mith wrote:The thing is, Id on't see this going anywhere and I think Darkstar hit that reason on the head; your site is basically a Trek version of SDN (even if it may be more free and nicer) and no one is going to really be compelled to join a small niche of a website. SJ works because there are those who wish to take away from SDN and SB to relax at a place that is a little more strict, but fair in its methods.
If you see it as a Trek version of SDN, then I have a lot more work to do. It really is the opposite of SDN. They seem poised to suffocate themselves with their own arrogance and pompery. They take themselves and their hobby to vulgar extremes of seriousness. My site is lighter in tone, and has very few rules. I want it to be a place with interesting debate, and discussions of all areas of Sci-Fi. But I also want it to be a place where you can go to just have fun, even if you aren't that into the subject material. That would be the ultimate success. I'll give the example again of TrollKingdom. I'm there daily. I do not consider myself a troll. The art of trollery isn't even all that interesting to me. But I've made friends there, it's never boring, and there's always things to keep me coming back. ASVS was the same way. Even when I tired of the debate, (which happened from time to time.) I went there to argue, talk with friends, read fanfics and catch up on things.
Mith wrote:But as it is, I can't see ASVS lasting that long. Websites survive because people keep going back and in considerable number. Your marketing method is going to smash harder than Asmodeus did when he hit Baator.

You need to branch out the concept and make it more adaptable. Include more sci-fi like Stargate, BSG, and others into the theme too. Make it more about sci-fi discussions than about two specific franchises.
I realized this almost immediately after I put it up. Which is why I added the line to the banner "Free Speech Sci-Fi Community." I am wanting to branch this out into more areas. I have a large off topic area, and am trying to add content to the other Sci-Fi areas. If you have some input or suggestions on what you would like to see that you would enjoy having there, by all means let me know. I'm completely open to suggestions. Why not register and bring some of your ideas to the table?

*Oh, and sorry to spam so many of these responses at once. This part of the week is always very busy for me. I work 4 10 hr days (Wed-Sat) that end up being more like 12hr so, my free time is limited on those days.

Thinking of it, I'm going to say that you were craving for appearing on their radar.
