Apocalypse-class nulcear missiles are planet based weapons. The ones that "glassed" Korhal were fired from Tarsonis (not battlecruisers). And they were used to target a planet, not maneuverable starships.
Also, if the planet was glassed as the terran history text tells us than the terrain would have been very different during the in game missions. So that's a little inconsistent.
Since the Apocalypse-class nulcear missiles are planet based weapons, and the lore is inconsistent, with the game, it's probably best that they are excluded.

Well, as you have seen now, they have that whole new Khoral Coruscanted under 4 years now. The idea is nothing short of totally ludicrous. I mean, even if I loved a franchise, I'd point this out. You wonder when they'll start building thousands of moon sized warships within the same timeframe.

I'd like more info on that one please, if you wouldn't mind. That's frankly even more pejoratively baffling than I thought. A mere colony that can build a planetary hemisphere worth of a space station?l33telboi wrote: The terrans have always been incredibly industrious, and large-sized orbital platforms are common as dirt. The largest one covering an entire hemisphere of a planet and this constructed by a small fringe world colony. So there's precedent for what happened at Korhal.

Actually, when I looked at that picture of Korhal, it didn't seem too Coruscanted. I mean, if all aliens had to go by was this picture of Earth at night, they might assume that it's like Trantor from the Foundation series (Basically, Coruscant with oceans).

You can find more info on the wiki. For some reason Blizzard's compendium pages are down at the moment. There's a link at the bottom, should they come back online. To note, the original text says the station spans the northern hemisphere, not “almost”, like the wiki suggests.Mr. Oragahn wrote:I'd like more info on that one please, if you wouldn't mind. Generally I'd agree (though I'd point out that Earth doesn't look like that during night without image enhancement), but we have close-ups of the planet too. It's a playable map in the Starcraft II Beta. Basically your armies fight on the rooftops of giant skyscrapers, and you can see chasms and drops that disappear into the fog below. It’s quite literally identical to Coruscant in the places you play.Khas wrote:Actually, when I looked at that picture of Korhal, it didn't seem too Coruscanted. I'm not saying that this sort of urban environment exists around the entire planet (we can't see half of it, after all). But it has been urbanized to the point where you might as well call it Coruscant, and the difference in urbanization probably doesn’t differ by anything resembling an order of magnitude.
Depends on the source. The manual says the nukes were launched from Tarsonis, but the novels state they were orbitally bombarded by 25 (IIRC) Battlecruisers.Sunburst wrote:Apocalypse-class nulcear missiles are planet based weapons. It's fine the way it is. In Brood War we can see continent sized splotches of blackened glass still left on the planet, and four years after that most of the planet is one giant metropolis. Terran terraforming is some of the most impressive around. Even when terraforming fails it's spectacular... as the entire planet literally explodes...Also, if the planet was glassed as the terran history text tells us than the terrain would have been very different during the in game missions. Wow. Terraforming mishap causes the entire planet to explode. I think we can classify that as an epic failure.

I never got the feeling that there were mad industries in Starcraft. The Protoss engineered most of their stuff on Aiur, the battles didn't seem to occur on that many worlds, we didn't really see huge space battles: frankly, if you can coruscantize and populate a whole planet in four years, there's no way you're not going to steamroll your enemies with millions of heavy warships.
I think I'm going to avoid any further debate about Starcraft.
