Of course, since this falls under the burden of proof.
You say the text says it, you show the text, allowing anyone who wishes or who can to verify your claims, and you show how you translated the text...

Re: LMAO@SpaceBattles!
the problem with that is that particular series actually has an officially translated release so I have no clue why some one is even bothering to use a non canon version when you can just torrent the english dubbed and translated
I happen to have both the series and I know posters who have all the novels..so errm where is super even getting his info? it seems like he made that ruling on a lack of knowledge/info then anything directly malignant
also..the honor fans are really really laying into the abh defenders..hard and perhaps unfairly
DBZ fan translations have notoriously gone out of their way to leave out scans from the manga that paint a vastly weaker picture of their universe even going so far as to leave out entire sections of Data books that don't validate super saiyans possessing extreme powers or for example and Naruto fans have translated "Gais speed at this stage surpasses supersonic and enters hypersponic" to "Gais speed passes well beyond the speed of light"
or "The raikages synapses move at the speed of light as he charges into battle against Sasuke" when it was really more 'blinding speed of The Raikages Raiton as he moves against Sasuke"
"within the Sharigan Dimension I am Omnipotent and Omnipresent" when the actual translation was merely "my will is absolute" here or something
another great example is from Samurai Deeper Kyo when you had people claiming this one character moveset was said to be FTL when they deliberately warped a translation of poetic narration to describe speed not a direct correlation
so you have to be extremely cautious with fanlations some are great and better then the official..the midnight crews dubbing of berserk and IIRC bastard is a good example of great translating
but allot of times..its just pure biased that makes Wong look like a bastion of wisdom and sanity

If the canon material exists only in one language, say Japanese, and it says "the E-D is capable of wiping all the life on a planet", and one fan translates it as such because he's fluent in English and Japanese, then the infor should be good, unless someone else proves the translation is not valid using linguistic arguments...

That certainly explains why SS4 has supported it and why he has made threats regarding discussing the issue any more, that and because epskiy first mentioned it obviously.
With such poor definition it opens the door to anybody making up a interpretation that suits them, and its not like that is not already a big issue..:).

Re: LMAO@SpaceBattles!
Wait. So there is an official translation?
Did anyone point that out in the thread, because it makes a hell of a difference. A fan translation would only be useful to dispute the accuracy of the official one, and that would require a lot of work and laying your evidence, making a sure case as to why the fan translation is better on a particular word or sentence.
Going with Mike's provisions, SS4 can only lift his rule. It's also something strange that as he voiced that rule as if it had been agreed upon a long time before and became a consensus, that no one knew yet that there was an official translation. That's quite an ignorance going on there.

the "primary canon" IE the novels I believe do have an official english translation or did at one point it's not like LOGH where the subject matter is to controversial or something and the series and novels exist only in fanlated format (very good ones to very bad ones ) they apparently did see english release or the damn Fanlators have become as good as official companies in some cases...because allot of posters I knew on rumbles had them and made use of them
but the anime series? has had both an english dubbed release and a subtitled release and I have no idea why no one has at least made an effort to make use of that if all else failed even if it isn't the primary canon it's certainly more official then a god damn fan translated version of the original source material
I can link you to a torrent of the series if you wanna take a watch it isn't that bad LOGH as well
depending on who's doing it of course but SS4 is going out of his way to allow fanlations and fansubs is bad when you have the potential for error mind you the way he phrased it wasn't so bad "unless contradicted" but then again..they supposedly held that about the EU and well look how that turned outKor_Dahar_Master wrote:

Re: LMAO@SpaceBattles!
I'm a little bit perplexed on reading that thread, and granted I mostly skimmed through it, but the "Crest of the Stars" and "Banner of the Stars" series has been released offically in both the anime and manga formats here the U.S., U.K., and Europe. I don't know if the novels they're all based on have been released, or the technical books. So in theory there should be offical translations, thus likely overriding any fan translation, unless someone can show the fan translation is superior.

the honor verse is also winning a fight they really shouldn't be but thats kind of typical for that site
but I'm not understanding why he even made that ruling when there is officially licensed stuff

Re: LMAO@SpaceBattles!
His actual ruling was if there was no official translations...
Perhaps he wasn't aware there were any, and since Episky's track record isn't the best as far as presenting evidence, maybe that's why SS4 isn't really believing there are without proof...

That's a key point. I don't suppose someone here who has an account also on SBC could take some time and point that out them.

Because he is a biased dick who goes out of his way to screw over people who defend certain subjects.Admiral Breetai wrote:the honor verse is also winning a fight they really shouldn't be but thats kind of typical for that site

Honestly if I had a mod like him on my old forum I would have kicked them on the spot.

Yes, Episky, please be careful. I'm going to let this slide just this one time without an offical warning since you're still relatively new here, and you are understandably fustrated.

Oh sorry, I didn't know there was a language rule here, guess I spent too much time on SB won't happen again.Mike DiCenso wrote:Yes, Episky, please be careful.
